Seven government departments and their associated agencies have a direct support role to play in the water-based tourism and leisure sector. The various departments are listed, along with their supporting agencies, and details are provided on the type of support offered to those involved in water-based tourism and leisure activities.

The type of support offered includes:

  • Marine and freshwater research and development
  • Marketing information, support and advice
  • Assistance in developing new water-based tourism initiatives
  • Assistance in co-operative ventures with other tourism operators
  • Training of personnel
  • Water safety and rescue
  • Conservation of our wild flora and fauna
  • Preservation of the Irish language, heritage and inland waterways
  • Protection of the environment.
